IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
This is argued that stress is the talk of the town as the point to ponder in recent times as the among main problem of the modern world in comparison with the past era, while the other coount it as a fabricated information because they believe in the vice versa of what disscussed above but they think at that time there is no way meant to feel, measure or express it. I partly agree with the notion that the stress is the hot potato nowadays in urban world while the boomers also tackle woth it but they did not had the way to discribe that or have other things or activities to mitigate with this problem.
One of the compelling reason to support this approach are the recent studies about the human health held by WHO ( World Health Organisation) in different hospital regarding the data provided about the most common symptoms provided by the patients at information desk from every ward or department of the hospital. These reports clearly revealed that teh headache, anxiety, stress and unconciouness are most common sysmptoms even for the patients of chronic diseases. Thus, it can be pbserved that the severity of this notion is afftecting the society so badly and causing detrimental effects on human health.
On the other hand, the older ones also faced a plethora of problems in their life as the world has not been that much organsied that time and they have to fight for even show their identity and even to claim their basic rights. For instance, Nelson Mandels fought fro almost 27 years to get the equality rights for black people in the industrial hub of the that time. Hence, they had a unique struture called as social connections which help them out to get rid of this. And may be they also beleive in the saying of the Shakespeare " Man is a social animal".
In conclusion, Although these mental illnesses are the challeneges for the humans throighout their history, there are the ways to adapt some alternative ways to avoid and face them with positive psoture and behaving normally. Modern people should learn from the paths followed by their ancestors to reduce or ignore these problems which posses chronical and detrimental effects of human helath.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on modern stress versus historical pressure and providing a personal opinion, earning the score through this coverage. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack clarity. For example, the introduction uses heavily convoluted phrasing like 'the talk of the town as the point to ponder', making the writer's exact position slightly obscure initially. The body paragraphs introduce relevant arguments, such as WHO health reports and historical pressures faced by figures like Nelson Mandela, but the supporting evidence remains generalised and sometimes tangential, preventing the ideas from being fully extended. To reach the next level, the writer needs to present a more clearly defined position throughout and extend the main ideas with more focused, precise examples rather than shifting abruptly between concepts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs with opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, as seen in awkward transitional phrases like 'On the other hand, the older ones' and 'Thus, it can be pbserved that'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as pronoun use in 'help them out to get rid of this', where the exact antecedent is muddled. To progress, the writer should ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and that logical relationships between sentences are signalled smoothly without relying on repetitive transitional formulas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'detrimental effects', 'plethora', and 'industrial hub'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the text. Examples include 'coount' instead of count, 'fabricated information', 'tackle woth', 'discribe', 'teh headache', 'unconciouness', 'sysmptoms', 'Mandels', 'struture', 'beleive', 'challeneges', 'throighout', 'psoture', and 'chronical'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they recur frequently enough to restrict the score. To improve, the writer must focus on accurate spelling, precise word forms, and natural collocations rather than forcing advanced vocabulary in inappropriate contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures such as relative clauses and conditional-style framings. However, these attempts are often marred by frequent errors in grammar, articles, prepositions, and agreement. Examples include 'This is argued that stress is...', 'the stress is the hot potato', 'One of the compelling reason... are', 'held by WHO... in different hospital', 'world has not been that much organsied that time', 'equality rights', and 'there are the ways to adapt some alternative ways'. These frequent errors frequently cause difficulty and strain for the reader. Achieving a higher band requires a greater proportion of error-free sentences and tighter control over basic grammatical patterns, subject-verb agreement, and article usage within complex sentence structures.
