In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
in many comunities, today stress is a major issue, and also they believe that people suffer from more stress than the old days, whilst others argue that todays generation feel worst stress as compared to previous gen. they also add that they feel more mental pressure, but they don't have any idea of this mental condition. I believe that nowadays people have more responsibilies. My opinion is discuss further.
in this modern era, individuals have more burden such as financial, work pressure and responsibility of family. they have pressure in work life, like need better position, perform better in the work space and complete their target in given time. For example, people have dream that they get better job and fulfil their families needs and secure the good future. Recent days people are using social media. they were facinated to rich people lifestyle. they copied them, no matter wether they have capable to spend like them or not. Many of them spent money on things they don't realy need.
on the other hand, some individuals argue that in previous years people did not have any knowledge about mental disorder, like stress. Also they say that old-age people have more stress such as farming related issues. for instance, if rainy days were not coming, how they watering their crops. How they manage their financial condition. Their was no compitition in those days, like education, lifestyle and financial.
in conclution, both views have their own position. However, old generations did not have any information related to stress but they have some issues in their life. I believe that today the competition were increased, the basic facilities pricies were increased. thus people feel more stress to fulfil their needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on stress and providing a personal opinion, placing it in the mid-range. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding previous generations touches on farming issues and financial conditions, but the points are not fully extended with robust examples or clear analysis. The student states a position, as seen in the phrase 'I believe that nowadays people have more responsibilies,' but the conclusion and body paragraphs rely on generalisations rather than deep exploration. To reach a higher standard, the response would need to flesh out each argument more thoroughly, explaining the causes and effects of modern versus past pressures with greater depth and clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates some organisation with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, and basic cohesive markers such as 'on the other hand' and 'in conclution' are employed. Nevertheless, there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical flow throughout the essay. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and some cohesive devices are repetitive or awkward, such as starting multiple sentences abruptly with pronouns or transitional phrases like 'Recent days people are using social media.' Paragraphing is present, but the internal connections between sentences often feel disjointed rather than smoothly sequenced. Achieving greater cohesion requires more varied and accurate transition signals, improved referencing to link ideas across sentences, and a stronger narrative thread guiding the reader from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about stress, work pressure, and lifestyle. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'facinated,' 'compitition,' and 'conclution,' but these attempts are marred by noticeable spelling errors and imprecise word choices. Frequent lexical inaccuracies appear throughout the text, including 'worst stress' instead of 'worse stress,' 'responsibilies' instead of 'responsibilities,' and 'pricies' instead of 'prices.' While these flaws do not entirely obscure the message, they cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the lexical range from expanding further. To improve, the writer should focus on strengthening spelling accuracy, selecting precise collocations related to mental health and societal pressures, and expanding their range of functional academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, primarily consisting of simple sentences and basic compound constructions. When the student attempts complex sentences, they are frequently faulty, marred by missing auxiliary verbs, incorrect tense usage, and agreement errors. Examples of these grammatical issues include 'today stress is a major issue,' 'if rainy days were not coming, how they watering their crops,' and 'the competition were increased.' Frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and prepositions are evident across the text and can cause occasional difficulty for the reader in parsing the exact meaning. To progress, the student needs to master basic sentence construction, ensure correct subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, and build better control over complex clauses without letting errors accumulate.
