Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response partially addresses the task. The length requirement is not met, as the student's response contains 214 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum (excluding 13 words copied from the prompt). Furthermore, the conclusion cuts off abruptly mid-sentence, leaving the final thoughts incomplete. The writer attempts to discuss both views and presents a position, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the points about modern workplaces and social media are introduced without sufficient elaboration or concrete examples. To reach a higher level, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fulfilled, develop each main argument more fully with robust support, and write a complete, coherent concluding paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation evident in the text, with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression due to the incomplete ending and sudden shifts between ideas. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently repetitive, mechanical, or inaccurate, such as 'On the contrary side' and 'in situation they feel more anxiety'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical links between sentences. To improve, the writer needs to employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive markers to guide the reader smoothly through the arguments, ensure logical transitions between paragraphs, and maintain a consistent flow right up to the final sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'fast-paced', 'financial responsibilities', and 'physically demanding', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling errors like 'strees' and 'reseans', alongside unnatural collocations such as 'complate in short time' and 'make a major roul'. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to word formation and spelling, and ensure that vocabulary is chosen with greater precision and stylistic awareness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside frequent faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb forms, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples of these errors include 'streem become constant problem', 'pupils were deal with pressure', 'employees should their excessive work complate', and 'nature of pressure has changes'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To improve, the student needs to enhance their command of basic sentence structures, ensure accurate verb tense usage, and eliminate frequent grammatical slips.
