IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Stress is a common problem in today's youth as they overthink a lot yet do not come with a solution. In our society elderly people thinks that not only in thier era people had more stress in compare to today's genration but also they do not think of the idea from suffering from it. In the other hand youngsters exaggerate to show thier stress to other people rather than dealing with it.
A men who is working for a 9 to 5 job, also has to take care of his family, has stress but not thinks about it. If the same situation is held in people of present time they will show others the most of being stressed. They seek for people's attention to think about themselves as he or she is a very busy person, although the person would be living his dream life. I strongly disagree for this problem which has been discribed a serious issue for the people in present time. A mojor problem of it is mobile phones which people have the addiction most. In recent news I also heard about the suicide ratio which has been increased by 16% for the reason of stress.
Elderly or millenial peoples do not think about thier workload. Rather than treating it as an issue they deal it thinking as thier needs being fullfilled by thier hardwork. They had kept a point of not thinking about the idea of suffering from stress thinking as it does not exist. They also claim that previous generations had more presseure compared to current situation but they delt with ease. I strongly agree about this opinion where I also use this method in my daily life so I could not be distracted by my emotions. Daily doing physical activities also helps mentally to be in peace and find a solution of every problem.
In conclusion, I would prefer the idea os millenials which were the previous genration of our societies as it's the best not let the idea of suffering from sterss take over your thoughts and the current generation should also be inspired and try this method.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both perspectives and state a preference for the view that earlier generations managed pressure without describing it as stress. The personal reference to using this approach and the suggestion of physical activity add relevant support. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the claim that young people exaggerate stress is asserted rather than supported, and the mobile-phone point and reported rise in suicide are introduced without explaining how they establish your position. Your stance also shifts: you initially disagree that stress is a serious modern problem, then strongly agree with the older generation’s view. Clarify your position and explain each side with specific, relevant examples so the response answers all parts more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion, and it attempts to connect ideas with phrases such as “In conclusion” and “Rather than.” This gives the reader some sense of structure. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear: the second paragraph moves from work and family responsibilities to attention-seeking, mobile phones and suicide without showing how these points connect. References such as “this method” and “the idea” are also not always precise, while repeated contrasts between generations make the argument feel circular. Use one clear focus for each paragraph, order supporting points logically, and make links between claims and examples explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “workload,” “pressure,” “physical activities” and “emotions,” so the reader can identify the subject of the essay. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or awkward choices make parts difficult to interpret, such as “the most of being stressed,” “the idea of suffering from stress” and “the best not let the idea.” Spelling errors, including “thier,” “genration” and “presseure,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe people as “under considerable pressure” or “seeking attention,” rather than relying on repeated uses of “stress” and “idea.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “although” and a conditional structure beginning “If the same situation…”. However, complex attempts are often faulty, and frequent errors can make the intended meaning hard to follow. Examples include “elderly people thinks,” “A men who is working… has stress but not thinks,” and “they deal it thinking as their needs being fullfilled.” These show problems with subject–verb agreement, sentence construction and verb patterns. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected supporting clause, and check agreement and verb forms. More reliable control of these patterns would make your argument easier to understand.
