Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this modern world , stress has become a major problem for every individual . However,it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past whereas other believes the amount of stress people have today is exagerated therefore pervoius generation were under more pressure. In this eassy will dicuss both the reasons and causes equally.

The world is developing and evolving on a rapid pace where everyone is running to achieve something and build thier dream life. Also there are many reasons about stress becoming major problem for today's world. firstly dicussing about the amount to competition has increased in every field , which leads to peer pressure a indiviaul to be better from rest can cause stress and sometimes serious health isusse. Also people nowadays compare their own real life with someone crazy and fake life on socail media which cuases insecurity and stress. Moreover education and jobs are now plays vital role in stressing people as now education has become a very curcial essentail for person's life where job also a important factor.

Previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist to some extend this is true but in past people did not had the same level of competition and work load compare to today's time. In people had life outside the social media and live more real life then today's generation which does not create that much comparision and pressure on an individual. Moreover, education and jobs in past was quiet simple. which leads to less stress compare to today's world stress.

In conclusion ,I agree the previous generation had faced stress but compare to today's generation stress due to competition and educational so on it was comparatively less.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and give a clear preference in the conclusion: you argue that current pressures, especially competition and education, make stress greater today. The discussion is relevant, with examples such as social-media comparison and pressure to succeed. However, the opening says you will discuss “reasons and causes” rather than clearly framing both views, and the earlier-generation argument is brief and partly unclear. The claim that past education and jobs were “quite simple” needs explanation or a concrete example, and the view that stress was not recognised is not explored directly. Develop each side more fully and make your position explicit from the introduction to strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph about present-day stress, a paragraph about previous generations, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic route through the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Moreover education and jobs…” introduces a point without explaining how it connects to the preceding examples, while “In people had life outside…” is difficult to follow. The conclusion repeats the main comparison but does not draw the discussion together in much detail. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example to its main claim, and check that linking words such as “however” and “moreover” express the intended relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “peer pressure,” “insecurity,” “competition,” and “work load,” and these choices help communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make parts of the response difficult to understand, such as “amount to competition,” “crazy and fake life,” and “serious health isusse.” Repetition of “stress,” “pressure,” and “today’s world” also limits precision. Aim to learn topic-specific collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe competition as “intense” and explain that social media presents an “idealised image” of life. More precise phrasing would make your arguments clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses linked with “whereas,” “which,” and “as,” but complex structures are often faulty and errors occur frequently. Examples include “other believes” instead of a plural verb, “education and jobs…plays” instead of a plural verb, and “people did not had” instead of the correct past construction. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “Previous generations were under more pressure… to some extend this is true but…”. These problems sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms, and sentence boundaries, then build longer sentences from those reliable patterns.
