In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many people think that the major problem in today's society is stress. Today, many people suffer from stress and it is considered that people now suffer from more stress than in past. Similarly, many people thought that previous generations were under more stress than in present time. They also believed, now the stress is totally exaggerated, In fact, the stress was not a proper concept in previous generations. We will discuss both views and analyse both points.
On the one side, in past time, things like stress were so unreal. It has many reasons behind it. There was not so much competition with others in past. People tried to focus on their selves and there was not any kind kind of competitive mind. Furthermore, there was no family and society pressure to be a perfect human. everyone just did their work nad lived with joy in little wealth. Moreover, there was not social trends in market that made people more fond of various goods. For example, families never pressurized and insisted their children to get good grades or to perform well. They never compared anyone with others.Similarly there was not much market trends like housing, clothing, modern living , so everything were same for whole society. These various aspects made society keep away from stress.
On the other hand, today people specially young generation under pressure. New market trends have introduced in the society which made a mind more competitive. Similarly, many people compared tthem with others and always try to be on the top. This pressure creates stressful mind. For example, parents put huge pressure on chlidren to perform best in their studies and follow market trends that felt pressure on their mind to be always perfect in everyone;s view.
In my opinion, it is true that today;s generations are under great stress. We should always live with open mind without competing our selves with others.we should never stress over things that are not even exis. We should always try to improve our life instead of looking at others.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a clear opinion that people today experience considerable stress. The discussion of earlier generations focuses on less competition and fewer social expectations, while the present-day paragraph explains pressure from market trends, comparison and parents’ expectations. These are relevant points, and the examples about children’s grades help support them. However, the first view—that stress today is exaggerated and earlier generations faced greater pressure—is not fully represented: you mainly argue that stress was less recognised or absent in the past, rather than explaining what pressures people then faced. Some claims, such as “everything were same for whole society,” are also broad and unclear. Develop the contrast more evenly and explain the causes and consequences of each view.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs beginning “On the one side” and “On the other hand,” and a concluding opinion. This makes the overall direction easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover” and “For example” to connect supporting points. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and several ideas are joined without clear relationships. The first body paragraph, for instance, moves from competition to family pressure and then market trends, but the links between these claims could be made more explicit. Some references are unclear, as in “These various aspects,” and punctuation sometimes runs sentences together. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main argument, then group and explain related examples in a more deliberate sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “competition,” “pressure,” “market trends,” “compared” and “stressful,” so the main ideas can generally be understood. There are also attempts to express more specific concepts, such as “social pressure” and “perform well.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “a competitive mind,” “stressful mind,” “fond of various goods” and “stress over things that are not even exis” do not express the intended ideas naturally; spelling errors such as “chlidren” and “nad” also reduce precision. Build a more accurate set of topic phrases and check spelling, word forms and collocations so that your meaning is consistently clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including explanations introduced by “because” and examples beginning “For example.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical control is uneven, and errors sometimes make sentences difficult to interpret. For instance, “Today people specially young generation under pressure” lacks a complete verb structure, while “everything were same” has an agreement error. There are also problems with articles, plurals and sentence boundaries, as in “there was not social trends” and “others.Similarly.” Some long sentences combine several clauses without reliable punctuation. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and checking articles and agreement, then use complex sentences only when each clause is clearly formed and punctuated.
