IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is true that in some societies stress has become major problem in recent modern era, and analysts also argued that people have to face more stress than they did in the past. According to my point of view, It may be happened due to less sports activities or social pressure. however, some other researchers believe that past generations were under more pressure, because they has no idea to suffering from stress.
On the one hand, if i talk about the current generation so it is true that it involves in more stress as compare to past generation. According to my review, Firstly, the parents of modern generation has become lazy, due to daily routine work burden and they have no time for children. secondly, children has no any physical sports activity that why boys and girls remain in stress and last but not least, every children want to remain alone and he expect that no one can ask me any question, because i m independent person.
On the other hand, it is true that our fourfathers are not well educated and they don't have any modern technology, which helps and saves them from stress, but it also good habit that pervious generations are involved in physical activities and they remain fit. They are less suffer in stress because they put ramain busy to their mind. They are also very cooperative with their family members and friends.
In conclusion, present generation is facing more stress issues as compare to the past generation. Because previous generation was mentally free. They had no social pressure. They help each other, and they feel happy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear overall view that present-day people experience more stress, and you include a paragraph for each side of the discussion. The points about reduced physical activity, family pressures and earlier generations’ cooperation are relevant. However, the two views are not fully explained: the claim that modern parents are “lazy” is not clearly connected to stress, and the opposing view that past generations faced greater pressure is not really developed. Instead, you suggest they were “mentally free,” which does not explain why some people believe their pressures were greater. To strengthen the response, explain the reasons behind each view and support them with a specific example or evidence. The conclusion repeats your position but does not resolve this contrast. (Eight words copied from the task prompt were not counted.)
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing views, and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify your general position. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from parents’ routines to children’s sports and then independence without showing how these points connect. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” are useful, but “Firstly,” “secondly,” and “last but not least” make the development feel mechanical, and some connections are incomplete. For example, “They are less suffer in stress because they put ramain busy to their mind” is difficult to follow. Group related reasons and use clearer references and transitions to show how each point supports your argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “social pressure,” “physical activities,” “modern technology,” and “cooperative,” so the reader can generally understand the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes meaning difficult to interpret. Examples include “in recent modern era,” “involves in more stress,” and “put ramain busy to their mind.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “fourfathers,” “pervious,” and “remain” also reduce precision. Aim to learn common collocations for discussing stress and pressure, and check spelling and word forms during revision. More precise vocabulary would help you express the contrast between the generations clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “which,” and the overall message is usually understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles and punctuation. For example, “the parents … has become” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “they has no idea to suffering” combines an incorrect verb form with an awkward clause structure. “Every children want” also has a number-agreement problem. Capitalisation after full stops is inconsistent, as in “however,” and several long sentences need clearer punctuation. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check each sentence for a clear subject, correctly formed verb and complete clause.
