In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, many people believe that stress is a significant problem these days and individuals suffer from more stress compared with past.Other argue that old generation were under more tension but they did not complain about stress.I strongly believe that although previous generation had more pressure but new generation have to face more stressful challenges.
To begin with,in past people had not to worry about their finances as everyone had their own source of income. They used to spent most of their time in crops or by resting. They do not had to work under pressure of boss or had fear of elimination from their job.Furthermore they lived in calm and peaceful environment since living in such surrounding also effect your mental health positively.Although previous generation had less facilities but such comforts help them lowering their stress level. They did not got any chance to explore world which make their lives easy and stress free.
In modern world, everyone has become part of an invisible race to achieve success.People want to earn more and become finincially stable. There is alot of work load ,young generation have to work more to meet the satisfaction level of boss requirements which cause significant level of stress to the workers. Moreover, there is alot of noice pollution that also triger stress in young people as working in noisy area do not let you focous your work properly which effect you physical as well as mental health.
In conclusion, i strongly new generation have to face significant challenges in their daily life such as noise pollution and excessive work load that cause stress as compared with old generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear position: you acknowledge that earlier generations faced pressure, then argue that modern workers encounter more stressful challenges. The discussion of job demands, financial goals and noise pollution is relevant, and the examples give your argument a clear direction. However, the earlier-generation view is not fully convincing: claims that people had reliable income, less pressure and easier lives are broad and are not supported with specific evidence. The point that they “did not get any chance to explore world” is also unclear and does not explain directly why they experienced less stress. Develop both sides more evenly, qualify generalisations, and explain how each example supports your comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two perspectives, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. This makes the overall line of argument easy to follow. You also use signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion.” However, some connections are mechanical, and the first body paragraph moves from income to work, environment and access to the wider world without clearly showing how each point relates to stress. The contrast between past and present could be made more explicit, and the conclusion mostly repeats the introduction rather than drawing the comparison together. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and make references such as “they” unambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financially stable,” “work load,” “noise pollution,” “mental health” and “significant challenges.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some phrases show an attempt to discuss stress in a more specific way. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “finincially,” “noice,” “triger” and “focous.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “satisfaction level of boss requirements” and “lowering their stress level.” These do not generally prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and fluency. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases, for example “meet their boss’s expectations” and “reduce stress levels.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession with “although” and a reason introduced by “since.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main message is usually understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “They used to spent,” “They do not had,” “previous generation had,” and “new generation have.” The opening also joins contrasting ideas with “but” in a way that makes the sentence awkward, while several sentences lack commas after introductory phrases. Practise accurate past-tense forms and subject–verb agreement, and review sentence boundaries and punctuation. More reliable control of these patterns would make your complex ideas clearer.
