IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

In some societes stress is regarded as problem for people .But i think that it is not very large problem as peoplr regaaerded Iny my opinon that people considered it very large problem that it is .some people thought tht others take t more seriously that actually iit is .they say that the people in old world tavkle the large number of problems but in in that timr they did not cinsidered it any stress.

some people takes more stress that to solve that problems .They just worried about that things than to resolve them .And some constantly wprried about their past than to do things in present .They should understand these problems and try to rackle them .

While others people thought that our old people face more difficulties than us .They face these challenges and try to overcome them rather to make them stress. They are vise people and always try to sove all the problems .They just look at the problem and then try their best to solve them .Those prople have no idea about stress.

The community in our generation are really stressfull because they do not have any idea that how to tackle their problems .

But actually stess is not exist we just worrird about thme rather to resolve them .Today community considered the problem as stress .They have fair about threir past rather to focus on future .

To conclude that ,we just stress is not anythings .some people have this issue but they just worried about them than to solve .we can overcome about stress by taking many steps ,by focusing our goal and the difficulties come in our life to solve them .It cannot be possible that nobpdy can takes stress in their life but he can try to overcome it and makes his life easier

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to discuss both views: it says people today worry about problems, while earlier generations faced difficulties without describing them as stress. It also gives a personal position, especially in the conclusion that people can manage stress by focusing on goals and solving problems. However, the discussion is only minimally developed. The claim that stress “is not anythings” is unclear and conflicts with the acknowledgement that some people experience it, and the reasons why modern pressures may be greater or why past generations faced more pressure are not explained with relevant examples or evidence. Make your position consistent, explain each view separately, and support each with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response into paragraphs, and phrases such as “While others” and “To conclude” signal a change of view and a conclusion. However, the progression is difficult to follow because ideas are repeated or placed together without clear links. For example, the opening moves between the writer’s opinion and what “some people thought” without establishing whose view is being presented. The paragraph beginning “But actually stress is not exist” repeats earlier claims rather than advancing the argument, and references such as “them” and “they” are sometimes unclear. Use a clear structure—introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion—and connect each sentence to one main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-form errors that make the reader work to understand the message. Repeated items such as “problem,” “stress,” and “solve” limit the range, while forms such as “societes,” “wprried,” “stess,” and “threir” reduce clarity. Some relevant expressions are attempted, including “overcome these challenges” and “focus on future,” but several combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “stress is not anythings” and “take more stress.” Build a more accurate set of topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations. For instance, distinguish between experiencing pressure, feeling anxious, and coping with difficulties.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response shows some attempts to join ideas and use longer sentences, for example, “They should understand these problems and try to tackle them,” but sentence structures are mostly simple and errors are frequent. Problems with articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries occur throughout: “stress is regarded as problem,” “some people takes,” and “stress is not exist.” The opening also contains incomplete or confusing sentence construction, making the writer’s position hard to identify. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, including spaces before full stops and missing sentence boundaries. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled clauses using “because,” “although,” and “while”; check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
