IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The stress is the major cause of mental health disorder such as depression, anxiety and many more. One group of people believes that nowaday individuals are live more stressful life, while others argued that the stress level of previous generations were more then now but they did not know the consept of what is suffering from stress. Prior to my opinion bothe idea will elaborated in next paragraphes.
Among all the reasons why stress level is increased in today's era, the most significant is that, people do a bing scroling on socialmedia. People watch short contain on instagram and youtube which affect their mentality and their patience level. As a rsult of that they can not able to heandle a complicaions of life which increased their stress level. Moreover, they compare their life with other lives. For example, the person who does work heard but does not achive sucess and he or she saw their friend's achivment story or status on socialmedia which demotivated them more and enhans mental stress.
In contrast, the earlear people had more stress because they did not had inough resources. comparetivaly today's time the tecnology was not developd that much so people did all work by their own. In addition, they have very few resources for sucess. In old time individual have to do heard work in term of gatting any job or any position.
In my opinion, present life is more stressful because there is more tecnology but also more competation.
In conclusion, stress is present in both time perion in different terms. People should do some exersize or activity which decreased their daily stress.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and give a clear, if brief, opinion: you argue that modern life is more stressful because of technology and competition, while noting that earlier people had fewer resources and did more work themselves. The social-media example helps illustrate how comparison can increase pressure. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The earlier-generation view is stated in general terms, without a specific example or explanation of the kinds of pressures people faced. Your position also appears mainly near the end, and the conclusion shifts to advice about exercise rather than reinforcing the comparison. Develop each side with a concrete example and make your judgement clear throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, an opinion, and a conclusion. This makes the overall arrangement easy to follow. You also use signposts such as “Moreover,” “In contrast,” and “In conclusion” to show relationships between ideas. At times, however, the progression is mechanical or unclear. The opening says both views “will elaborated in next paragraphes,” and the opinion is placed in a very short standalone paragraph rather than being developed from the preceding comparison. Some links between sentences are also difficult to follow, particularly in the social-media example. Use clearer references and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “mental health,” “resources,” “competition,” and “stress level,” and the social-media example gives you a chance to express a specific idea. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “bing scroling,” “short contain,” “achivment,” and “enhans mental stress.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “do work heard” and “in term of gatting any job.” Aim to learn accurate topic-related collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, “scroll endlessly,” “short-form content,” and “face intense competition” would express your ideas more naturally and precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a cause-and-effect structure beginning “As a rsult of that,” and a contrast introduced by “while.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make the meaning hard to follow. Examples include “individuals are live,” “the stress level … were,” “they did not had,” and “they can not able to heandle.” The sentence beginning “Among all the reasons” also has an awkward construction and punctuation. Practise forming accurate clauses with a subject and correctly conjugated verb, such as “people are living more stressful lives” and “they did not have enough resources.” Then build longer sentences from these reliable patterns.
