In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

Nowadays, in some societies stress is a major problem and it is a major problem and it thought that people suffer from stress more than past. However, other feels that people only exaggerated stress in today. The previous generation were under more pressure, but the idea of stress did not exist. I will discuss it in this essay.

Firstly, everyone take so much stress in his mind to do something and when they dont do it they feel sad and they were gone into anxiety and stress. But in the past if a person do something and they dont do it they were not feel anxiety and stress and feel sad. They work hard they try again they never lose their hope and try agin is a key to success and one day they do it.

To begin with, some people face little problem they take his problem very serious. But they dont see the big loss and they tell everyone about the problem and tell him he was doing something and I face very big loss and I was doing this and that may be he saved himself by luck but they feel very sad and it effect the life and health. If a person in past faces any problem they dont tell anyone about the problem they learn from the problem and correct it. They don;t tell anyone about the problem they faced it and patience on it.

In conclusion, the problems in life is unpredictable and many people faced it and control the problem and some people not control their emotions and they take so much stress in his mind.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response recognises both views: it contrasts present-day reactions to problems with the claim that people in the past faced pressure differently. It also gives a concluding view that some people manage their emotions while others do not. However, the discussion remains minimal and does not clearly explain whether people today experience more stress or whether stress is simply more openly recognised. The examples about trying again and not telling others are general, and their connection to the two positions is not fully explained. The introduction says, “I will discuss it,” but does not establish a clear opinion. To strengthen the response, state your position directly and develop each view with a specific, relevant example or explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “Firstly,” “To begin with” and “In conclusion” signal stages of the response. However, the ideas within paragraphs are not arranged clearly enough to build a sustained argument. The second body paragraph shifts from people treating small problems seriously to a confusing example about a “big loss,” without making the relationship between these points clear. Repetition, including “They don’t tell anyone about the problem,” also interrupts progression. Use each paragraph to develop one distinct view, connect examples explicitly to that view, and use clear referencing so readers can follow who is experiencing each problem.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on words such as “problem,” “stress,” “sad” and “people.” Some relevant terms, including “anxiety,” “pressure,” “emotions” and “health,” show an attempt to discuss the topic, but the range is not yet sufficient to express the distinctions in the question precisely. Several phrases are awkward or unclear, such as “take so much stress in his mind” and “patience on it,” which make the intended meaning harder to follow. Spelling slips such as “agin” and “dont” also reduce accuracy. Build a topic-specific range for describing causes, effects and coping strategies, and check collocations and spelling when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly uses short, simple statements and attempts some longer sentences with “when,” “but” and “if.” However, control of sentence structure and basic grammar is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make meaning unclear. Examples include “everyone take” and “the previous generation were,” where subject–verb agreement is faulty, and “they were not feel anxiety,” where the verb pattern is incorrect. Tense shifts also occur in “they were gone into anxiety” and “they work hard they try again.” Punctuation is often missing between joined clauses, as in “They work hard they try again.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine ideas using correctly formed clauses and consistent verb tenses.
