Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, stress has become a major topic of debate. Some people argue that people these days facing too much pressure in compared to the past because of modern lifestyle. While others say that old generation faced more pressure but they did not show that or the idea of stress was not existed at that time because they used to live simple life with family responsibilities.
A certain group of people says that due to the modern lifestyle people face stress more than the past. To explain it, nowadays, students feel stress to get higher score at school, employees are forced to meet the target. Additionally, due to the internet facility, people often compare themselves with others and feel stressful about their weak points. To give an example, a survey conducted by the World Health Organisation found in 2020 that people who used to work or study felt more stress in compared to those who stayed at home.
On the other hand, it is said that the past generation felt more stress but they did not showed it, even at that time the idea of stress was not existed. Ancient people were used to live normal life with their family. Morover, they were keen to work hard and mostly they enjoyed their lives. They do not have to meet the target or no options to compare themselves with others. To quote an instance, a report of The Times of India showed that ancient people have faced less stress level compared to modern people.
To conclude, although ancient people felt a little stress due to their hard works and responsibilities, modern people have too many responsibilities and targets. So people in today's world feel more stress in compared to the past generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a clear opinion in the conclusion: modern life creates more stress because of targets, study demands and comparison online. These examples are relevant, but the discussion is only partly developed. The first view receives several explanations, whereas the opposing view is mainly asserted through claims that earlier people lived “normal life” and “enjoyed their lives”; this does not explain why previous generations may have faced greater pressure, as the prompt suggests. The cited survey and newspaper report are also presented without enough detail to substantiate the claims. To strengthen the response, explain the historical pressures more fully and compare the two periods using specific, credible examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking phrases such as “Additionally,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the discussion, and the main ideas generally progress logically within each paragraph. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in signposting. However, the contrast between the views is not consistently developed, and some transitions connect claims without showing their relationship—for example, the report in the second body paragraph does not clearly support the preceding point. Use clearer referencing and explain how each example supports the paragraph’s main idea to make cohesion more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “pressure,” “responsibilities,” “compare themselves,” and “meet the target.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “modern lifestyle” and “family responsibilities.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation and spelling problems make the writing less natural: “in compared to,” “feel stressful about their weak points,” and “less stress level” are awkward, while “Morover” is misspelled. Repetition of “stress” and “people” also limits flexibility. Build a wider set of accurate collocations for discussing work, social expectations and wellbeing, and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “While others say…” and a reason clause with “because.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors occur often enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to process. Examples include “people these days facing,” “the idea of stress was not existed,” and “they did not showed it,” where verb forms are incorrect. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence construction, as in “old generation faced” and the opening fragment beginning “While others.” Practise forming complete clauses and checking tense and verb patterns, especially after auxiliaries such as “did” and after “was.”
