IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
There is a debate that in comparison to before, stress taken over person mind fully, whereas, other thinks past life had more stress than in today's generation. This essay will discussed both the views followed by my opinion.
To begin with, there are several reasons why individuals think this generation has more stress than past generation. The first factor is because of professional life. To explain, people have a lot of work in their workplace which needs to be submitted in date and it creates tension in person mind to finish the work in time. Similarly, the another reason is isolation. Elaborating further, people are congested in four walls where they donot have anyone to express their emotions which literally increase tension in person mind.
On the other hand, various factors are there why other feels past life had more mental pressure.
Firstly, people didnot have enough facilities. To clarify, individuals used to do their own household machine job which makes them feel that is the real issues. Secondly, they also have to do much work in the field. For instance, people have to dig the field on their own which makes them injure and they didnot get proper medication for their injury.
In conclusion, Both past generation and present generation have their difficulties and lot of tension in their life. Regarding my opinion, I completely agree with both the situation of before and this period which we should be able to maintain on own. Every people have obstacles which should be tackles and we must not think it as a pressure.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views by discussing modern workplace demands and isolation, then contrasting these with earlier generations’ household and agricultural labour. These examples are relevant, but the explanations remain general and do not fully show how they create greater stress or compare its effects across generations. Your own position is also unclear: “I completely agree with both” does not explain whether you think stress is greater today, was greater in the past, or differs in form. The conclusion’s advice that people should not think of difficulties as pressure does not resolve this comparison. State a clear view and support each main point with a specific explanation or example to develop the response more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers identify the sections. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and several links feel mechanical or unclear. For example, “The first factor is because of professional life” does not smoothly introduce the explanation that follows, while “the another reason” repeats the same listing pattern. The conclusion also introduces the idea of maintaining difficulties “on own” without connecting it clearly to the discussion. Use clearer topic sentences and link each example explicitly to the claim it supports; vary transitions and make references between ideas more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “isolation,” “emotions,” “mental pressure,” and “medication,” and the reader can generally identify the intended ideas. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, sometimes making meaning less clear. Examples include “stress taken over person mind fully,” “congested in four walls,” and “household machine job.” Repetition of “tension” and “people” also limits precision. Aim to learn common topic collocations and choose words that express the intended meaning directly—for instance, distinguish psychological pressure from physical hardship. Check word forms and spelling as well, including “donot” and “didnot,” which should be written as separate words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including explanations introduced by “To explain” and “For instance,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement occur in sentences such as “This essay will discussed” and “other thinks,” while missing articles and possessives appear in “person mind” and “the another reason.” There are also problems with plural forms and sentence construction, as in “Every people have obstacles which should be tackles.” These errors recur and can make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Practise building accurate basic clauses first, then extend them with subordinate clauses. Pay particular attention to subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms, articles, and possessive nouns.
