IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

The major reasons for that stress can be work , financial problems or couple relationships.

it's necessary to analyze the reasons of this stress and it can be harmful to people's lifes or not ?

It's obvious that there are victims that suffer from the stress in the real world, their lifes is ruined, lost their jobs or fail in education, furthermore, the present and the future generations will witness a huge pressure and major issues that can disturb their lifes .

In addition, the technological and scientific advancement creates many victims mentioning who Lost their jobs or marriages.Besides students who can't follow their progress in their fields Nd failed to graduate.

The past generations did not faced a similar experience such as stress because the rythme of life was slower and more comfortable where people had freedom to choose the suitable job, wife or friend

without repercussions.

On the other hand, many arguments said that stress is made by now generations as they overreact against lifes updates. They run away by creating excuses and being dramatic all the time. So it's suitable for them to act like victims so more people can feel pity about them

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the topic and attempt to discuss both views, mentioning modern pressures such as work, finances and relationships, as well as the claim that people today overreact. However, the response only partially addresses the task: the comparison with previous generations is brief, and the final sentence, “To conclude, both sides raise,” is unfinished, so your own opinion is not clearly stated. Several claims, such as past life being “more comfortable,” are asserted without relevant examples or explanation. The response is also 27 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your ideas. To improve, state your position clearly and support each view with a specific example and explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation: the opening introduces stress, the main paragraphs present contrasting views, and you attempt to conclude. Linking expressions such as “In addition,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” help signal these stages. However, progression is difficult to follow because several ideas are crowded together, and the conclusion stops before completing its point. The first paragraph also shifts from listing causes to asking whether stress is harmful, without a clear connection to the essay’s comparison. Some references, such as “their” and “this stress,” are not always clear. Use one focused paragraph for each view, connect each example to its main point, and finish with a complete conclusion that restates your opinion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “financial problems,” “technological and scientific advancement,” “pressure,” and “overreact.” This gives you enough language to communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “lifes,” “the rythme of life,” “life updates,” and “act like victims.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning less clear, particularly in the discussion of technological change and its effects. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling and word forms. For example, describe specific pressures such as “job insecurity” or “the pace of modern life,” rather than relying on broad or unclear phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “people who face the same routine” and a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to understand. Examples include “their lifes is ruined,” “The past generations did not faced,” and the question structure “it can be harmful … or not?” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, as seen in the opening fragments and the unfinished conclusion. Practise subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms after “did,” and forming indirect questions. Shorter, complete sentences would help you express your ideas more accurately before adding complex structures.
