Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the task by identifying some main features, such as staff numbers and income brackets. However, the analysis is incomplete and lacks a systematic approach to comparing the five companies. The report focuses heavily on the first two companies while neglecting the others, failing to provide a comprehensive overview of the data provided in the table. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively synthesize the information. To improve, ensure that all key data points are represented and that comparisons are made across all categories for all five companies, rather than focusing on isolated details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response uses basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand' to structure the text. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, and the paragraphing is not effectively utilized to separate different aspects of the data. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the companies. To improve, focus on grouping related information into distinct paragraphs and using a wider variety of linking words to create a smoother flow between sentences and ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on the language provided in the prompt. Phrases like 'staff members' and 'best companies to work for' are used repeatedly. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'rising income members' and 'that's the rare case', which hinder precision. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends and comparisons, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'fluctuate', or 'significant', and ensure that these terms are used accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('it is compares', 'company staff members are more that 1st position'), article usage ('an national newspaper'), and awkward phrasing. These errors occasionally make the meaning difficult to grasp. To improve, practice using a mix of complex sentence structures and focus on correcting basic grammatical errors such as verb tense consistency and the correct use of prepositions and articles. Proofreading for these common mistakes will significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
