Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but struggles with clarity and accuracy. While you identify some key features, the description of the data is often confusing. For instance, the comparison of staff numbers between the 1st and 5th companies is mathematically unclear, and the analysis of the male/female ratio is difficult to follow. You have identified some main features, but the lack of precision in reporting the figures means the reader cannot easily visualize the data. To improve, ensure you clearly state the figures provided in the table and avoid vague descriptions like 'major ratio' or 'high income bracket' without linking them clearly to the specific data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into two paragraphs, but the logical flow within them is weak. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the phrase 'follow by 3rd' is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track which company or data point is being discussed. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a more cohesive narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'potential ranking' and 'best to look for' (instead of 'best to work for'). You also struggle with collocations, such as 'highest account' instead of 'highest percentage' or 'proportion'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey a basic meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuate', 'majority', and 'minority', and ensure they are used in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('staff members ratio... is', 'high income bracket... is increase'), incorrect verb forms ('organize' instead of 'organized'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'which is more than double to 1st rank company'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for common errors like tense consistency will also help raise your score.
