Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview or highlight the most significant trends. While it mentions some figures, the selection of information is inconsistent and lacks a logical structure. For instance, the comparison between companies is fragmented, and the report fails to synthesize the data effectively. Several key features, such as the overall ranking criteria or a clear comparison of the highest/lowest values, are missing or poorly presented. The response reads more like a list of isolated facts rather than a cohesive report, which limits the development of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear organizational structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the transition between ideas is mechanical and often confusing. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, such as the abrupt shift between company descriptions. The progression of information is not logical, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the five companies. Referencing is also unclear, particularly when referring to 'other2' or 'over aged staff', which creates confusion regarding which data point is being discussed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on the prompt's language. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'over aged than 55' and 'national newspaper media'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in word formation and usage prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', or 'bracket', is missing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Sentence structures are often simplistic or poorly constructed, such as 'Given table describes information about some small companies'. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and prepositional phrases (e.g., 'under 35' vs 'under the age of 35'). While the writer attempts some complex sentences, they are often faulty or contain punctuation errors. The control over grammar is inconsistent, and the frequent errors in basic sentence structure significantly impact the overall quality of the writing.
