Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the table, such as staff numbers, age demographics, and turnover rates. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify that Company 5 has the highest staff count and turnover, you fail to provide specific data points for the income slabs or age categories, which are key components of the table. The comparison between companies is present but lacks precision in places. To reach a higher band, ensure that you not only identify trends but also support them with accurate data from the table, ensuring all categories (income, age, gender) are addressed with equal attention to detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure for a report. There is a clear introduction and an overview. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'On contrast' is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as when you refer to 'the 5th company' repeatedly without varying the structure. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that your referencing is precise to guide the reader through the comparisons more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'turnover', and 'income slab'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'significant number of staff members' (when 'highest' is meant) and 'the tendency of male workers are higher'. The phrase 'performed by a local publisher' is also slightly inaccurate in this context. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring word forms are used correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the 5th company has the significant number', 'the proportion... are almost the similar', and 'the number of female worker are higher'. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic agreement errors and ensuring that articles and pluralization are handled consistently.
