Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main data from the table, noting some specific figures such as staff numbers and percentages. However, the response contains several inaccuracies in reporting the data, such as claiming the 5th company has the lowest percentage in the high income bracket when the data shows 2%, but misinterpreting other relationships. The overview is weak, consisting of a confusing and awkward sentence. Furthermore, the descriptions rely heavily on a rigid, mechanical listing of data points category by category rather than synthesizing or selecting the most salient features. While all rows of the table are touched upon, the lack of clear, accurate reporting and proper comparisons places this response at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay lacks clear logical organisation and progression. While paragraphing is attempted, the division of ideas is confusing. The second body paragraph attempts to list multiple categories ('staff numbers', 'male and female ratio', 'under 35s/ over 55s') in a single run-on sentence connected by numerous commas and conjunctions like 'Moreover' and 'As well as'. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly and repetitively, often functioning mechanically rather than establishing clear logical relationships between ideas. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information. Overall, the structure reflects a Band 4.5 to 5.0 level, leaning toward 5.0 for attempting basic paragraphing.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and frequently inappropriate for an academic task. Examples include describing companies as 'tiny institutions', staff as 'team', and the survey as 'a research of team performed by a domestic press'. There are frequent word-choice errors, such as using 'job for' instead of 'work for', 'catagory' instead of 'category', 'authrity' instead of 'authority', and 'barcket' instead of 'bracket'. The range of vocabulary is extremely limited and heavily reliant on direct repetition of terms from the prompt. These noticeable lexical errors and limitations cause considerable difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 4.5 or 5.0 criteria.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. There is a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex or compound sentences are heavily flawed and ungrammatical. For instance, sentences like 'In an overview, the rank of staff numbers heighest in 5th company and the position staff in high income bracket is lowest percentage in 5th company' display severe syntactical errors, subject-verb agreement issues, and incorrect word forms ('heighest'). Punctuation is also poorly handled, with comma splices dominating the text. Frequent basic grammatical errors impede comprehension and demonstrate poor control over simple and complex structures alike.
