Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by reporting information from the table about the five best small companies to work for. However, the coverage is partial and heavily skewed. The student attempts to outline various metrics such as staff numbers, gender ratios, age demographics, turnover, and income brackets, but the selection of data is erratic and lacks a cohesive overview. While an attempt at an overview is made in the second paragraph, it focuses too narrowly on income and contains factual inaccuracies based on the provided table. Furthermore, key features are not clearly highlighted or compared effectively, resulting in an undeveloped and disjointed presentation of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some basic organization with paragraph breaks attempting to separate different sections of data. However, there is no clear overall progression or logical flow. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as the mechanical listing phrases ('First of all,' 'Secondly,', 'Finally,') which fail to connect ideas smoothly. Referencing and referencing ties are frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of comparisons between the different companies. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal structuring within paragraphs is disjointed and resembles a fragmented list rather than a cohesive report.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'forms' instead of 'companies', and awkward phrasing like 'staff in high income bracket higest difference'. Word choice lacks precision, and attempts to use more complex terminology result in unnatural collocations. Additionally, there are frequent errors in spelling and word forms throughout the text, which occasionally cause strain for the reader in understanding the intended data points.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on fragmented lists, verbless clauses, and heavily truncated sentences rather than complete, well-formed grammatical units. There are frequent errors in grammar, including missing articles ('in 5 position company'), incorrect prepositions, faulty sentence boundaries, and a general lack of control over basic verb forms and subject-verb agreement. These persistent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak grasp of sentence construction.
