Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the table as concerning staff and makes two relevant observations: the fifth-ranked company has the most employees, while its high-income share is low. These points match the data, but the overview is incomplete and the response does not compare the companies across the other measures, such as turnover, age profile or gender balance. The opening also misstates the subject as five different countries rather than five small companies. Most importantly, the response is far below the required 150 words, so there is not enough reporting to fulfil the task. Add a clear overview of the main contrasts and support it with accurate figures from several rows of the table.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview beginning with “Overall”. The two observations in that overview are connected by “whereas”, which signals contrast. However, the response stops after the unfinished line “The given table show”, so there is no developed sequence of details or concluding comparison. The full stop in “compay.whereas” also disrupts the flow, and the paragraphing does not yet help the reader distinguish an introduction, overview and supporting details. Complete the response with a logical progression: introduce the table, summarise its main patterns, then compare selected figures in a separate detail paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “staff number”, “survey” and “high income bracket”, and “whereas” is an appropriate way to introduce a contrast. However, the range is very limited because the response contains little description of the data. Several choices are inaccurate or awkward: “best staff” does not express that these are the best companies to work for, and “five diffrent countries” misidentifies the table’s subject. Spelling errors such as “diffrent”, “compay” and “fith” also reduce precision. Use the table’s terminology accurately and vary reporting language with phrases such as “ranked first”, “accounted for” and “staff turnover”.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both a simple introductory statement and a more complex overview sentence using “whereas”, showing some ability to vary sentence structure. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. In “the staff number are highest”, the singular noun conflicts with the plural verb; “The given table show” also has subject–verb disagreement and is left incomplete. The phrase “which cover by survey” lacks a correctly formed passive construction, and “staff in high income bracket are also low” does not form a clear grammatical comparison. Punctuation is also faulty in “compay.whereas”. Practise complete sentences, agreement, and passive forms—for example, “The table presents information collected in a survey”—before attempting longer comparisons.
