Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant comparisons, including the largest workforce (190 in fifth place), the high proportion of younger staff in the fifth and third companies, and the turnover extremes. However, the response only partially summarises the table: it gives no clear overall overview of the main patterns, and some important comparisons are omitted. There is also a factual error in the final sentence: the highest high-income figure is 74% for the third company, but the response then says “5% in 3rd and 4th company”; 5% belongs to the fourth company. The claim that turnover and pay are inversely related is too broad, since the figures do not show a consistent relationship across all five companies. Select the main contrasts more accurately and explain them clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the table, discusses workforce size and gender, then age, and finally turnover and income. This gives the reader some organisation, and words such as “Finally” and “Similarly” attempt to connect points. However, the progression is not consistently clear: “There are five positions in table started with staff numbers” does not explain the structure effectively, and the final comparison combines turnover and income in a confusing way. Several ideas are crowded into single paragraphs, while full stops and spacing are inconsistent. Use a clear overview followed by logically grouped comparisons, and make each linking phrase express the relationship between the figures accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “staff numbers,” “age profile,” “under-35s,” “staff turnover,” and “high income bracket,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “survey of employ,” “dominant,” “porportion,” and “trunover” are examples. “The female ratio is dominant” is also an unnatural way to describe a higher proportion of women. Some expressions, such as “inversely related,” sound analytical but are not supported by the data. Aim for accurate terms such as “female employees accounted for” and “the proportion of staff in the high-income bracket,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to combine comparisons. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between figures unclear. For example, “The 5th company have highest staff number” has errors in subject–verb agreement and article use, while “the 1st company has 56 staff number” uses an awkward singular construction. The sentence beginning “The 5th company has the highest…” also needs clearer punctuation around the following comparison. There is little variety in sentence structure, and the longer final sentence is difficult to follow. Practise accurate comparative sentences, for example, “The fifth-placed company employed 190 people, compared with 56 at the top-ranked company.”
