THE FIVE BEST SMALL COMPANIES TO WORK FOR
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table illustrates the data from a survery of employees taken by a national newspaper among five minor organisations in Britain to identify which organisations would be the best to get enrolled in. Overall, the survey had five features that includes staff numbers , male to female ratio , proportion of individuals under 35 to over 55, staff turnover and staff in high income bracket.
Firstly , the organisations in the first position had fewer employees and this has gradually increased depicting the highest number of employees in the organisation ranked at fifth position. The male to female ratio shows a fluctuation among all the five organisations. In addition, every company shows a higher porportion of employees aged under 35 when compared to staffs aged over 55. There is also moderate fluctuations among the proportion in both staff turnover and staff with an affluent income bracket.
The statistics of the survey depicts that the number of staff in the top ranked company has only 56 members while the company in the fifth position has quadrapled the number to 190 members . The male to female ratio varied extensively among the companies as the first positiones company maintained a 30 to 70 proportion while fifth ranked company showed a 50 to 49 proportion respectively.Besides, the propotion of working individuals aged under 35 showed a significant proportion of 93% for the least ranked company with similar proportion for others as well, while those over 55 showed almost negligible results for almost all the companies except for the one in fourth position. The staff turnover rate for the first company was the lowest with only 5 % while the fifth positioned company showed a 33% turnover . Moreover , individuals with a higher income bracket found mostly on the company ranked at third position at 34% while the lowest proportion was shown in the fifth company accounted for only 2%.
To take it all into consideration,The company that ranked at the first position has a balanced statistics compared to all the other companies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the main categories and make relevant comparisons, including the rise in staff numbers from the first- to fifth-ranked company and the contrast in turnover. However, some figures and interpretations are inaccurate: the fifth company’s male-to-female ratio is 51:49, not “50 to 49,” and the third-ranked company has the highest high-income share at 74%, not 34%. The overview also says the first company has “balanced statistics,” which is unclear and not supported by a clear comparison. Several useful features are mentioned, but the age and income comparisons are not consistently precise. Select the most striking contrasts and check each figure against the table to make the summary clearer and more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has an overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to detailed comparisons, and signposting such as “Firstly,” “In addition,” and “Moreover” helps show relationships between points. The main information is generally grouped in a sensible order. However, the final sentence repeats a broad conclusion without clarifying what makes the first-ranked company balanced, and some transitions feel mechanical. The long third paragraph combines several different comparisons, making the progression harder to follow; the income figures, in particular, are difficult to track. Organise the details into clearer groups—for example, company size and gender, then age, turnover and income—and use precise references to rankings so readers can follow each comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “staff turnover,” “proportion,” “ranked,” and “income bracket.” Some less common choices show ambition, but several are inaccurate or unnatural for describing this table: “get enrolled in” does not fit companies as workplaces, “minor organisations” is an awkward substitute for small companies, and “affluent income bracket” is not a natural collocation. Spelling errors such as “survery,” “quadrapled,” and “propotion” also reduce accuracy. Prefer direct, precise language for data reporting, and check spelling and collocations. For example, describe a company as “ranked fifth” and say that a figure “accounted for” a percentage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “while” and “as,” and the main meaning is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement and sentence construction. For example, “the survey had five features that includes” should use a plural verb (“include”), while “The statistics … depicts” also has a subject–verb agreement problem. The sentence beginning “The male to female ratio varied extensively …” runs into “respectively” without a clear grammatical link, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. Review agreement, sentence boundaries and comma use, especially in longer sentences. Breaking the detailed comparisons into shorter, controlled sentences would help you retain variety while improving accuracy.
