Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant features, including the fifth-ranked company’s much larger workforce and the contrast between turnover at the first- and fifth-ranked companies. The overview also notes that younger staff predominate and that over-55s form a small share. However, the report only partially covers the table: it gives no clear account of the high-income figures, and the gender comparison is left unfinished. There is also a significant data mismatch: 93% refers to under-35s at the fifth-ranked company, not its workforce size; that company employs 190 people. The statement about the fourth company having the lowest proportion of staff over 55 is inaccurate, since the first, third and fifth companies each report 0%. Select the main comparisons and link each figure to the correct category.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic overall shape: an opening, an overview, and further comparisons about age, turnover and gender. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “while” and “conversely” show an attempt to connect information. However, progression is difficult to follow because several different categories are crowded into one long paragraph, and the age comparison shifts confusingly from workforce size to percentages. The final sentence about gender is incomplete as a comparison and is not developed with figures. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key details, and group related data together—for example, workforce and age, then turnover, income and gender. Clearer sentence boundaries and references to each company would make the organisation easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt some task-appropriate vocabulary, including “workforce,” “demographic,” “proportion,” “turnover rate” and “gender distribution.” These choices show an effort to describe table data rather than rely only on basic words. However, spelling errors and inaccurate or awkward collocations are frequent enough to reduce precision, as in “newpaper,” “smililar,” “higest,” “stabilty” and “female heavily outnumber males.” Some expressions are also unclear, such as “the 5 place” and “the 3 and 1 company.” Aim for accurate forms and standard data-reporting phrases, such as “ranked fifth,” “the proportion of employees,” and “women outnumber men.” Proofreading spelling and word choice would make your meaning more reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There is an attempt to use more than simple statements, including contrast clauses with “while” and “whereas,” and the overview communicates a general comparison. However, the range is limited and complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to interpret. For example, “Table illustrate the five small companies” lacks an article and subject–verb agreement, while “the company in the 5 place employs 190 people which is significantly higher than the top ranked company at 93%” combines ideas without a clear grammatical relationship. Several clauses also lack clear subjects or punctuation, particularly in the turnover comparison. Practise building complete sentences with one main comparison at a time, checking articles, agreement, and clause boundaries before adding subordinate clauses.
