Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant categories and report some figures accurately, including the fifth-ranked company’s 190 employees, 33% turnover and 2% in the high-income bracket, as well as the fourth company’s 76 employees and 13% turnover. However, the overview is seriously inaccurate: the fifth company did not have the highest rating; it ranked fifth, while the first-ranked company topped the survey. The response also omits important comparisons, especially the high-income figures for the second and third companies, and gives incomplete or confused age information. For example, “All workers age were under 35” is not supported by the table, which reports 93% under 35 and 0% over 55. Select the main contrasts and summarise them accurately before adding details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, beginning with an introduction and then grouping details about companies, and it attempts to connect ideas with “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “Moreover.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview is unclear and the company details are presented in a sequence without a consistent comparison. Some linking words are used inaccurately: “Although” introduces statements that do not contrast with the preceding information, and “And” begins a sentence that continues the same point. The final paragraph also combines information about the second and first companies in a way that makes their figures hard to distinguish. Organise the body by clear comparisons, and use linking expressions only when their logical relationship is accurate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, such as “staff turnover,” “age structure,” “gender ratio” and “high income,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, including “highest rating” for survey position, “staff member” when referring to employee numbers, and “take higher salary.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “componies,” “Britian,” “gend en” and “Futhermore,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, repeated-use terms such as “ranked first,” “employees,” “female-to-male ratio” and “high-income bracket.” Check spelling carefully and avoid using “although” where you simply mean “and” or “while.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “Although,” and uses simple statements to report figures. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, plurals and sentence boundaries are frequent enough to make parts difficult to interpret. For example, “5th compony has highest rating” lacks an article and uses an unclear noun phrase, while “males ratio were 51” has agreement and sentence-structure problems. “2nd compony had 79 staff or female staff is more than male” also shifts tense and joins ideas incorrectly. Practise accurate simple comparisons first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while” or “whereas.”
