Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the table’s subject and make some relevant comparisons, including the first-ranked company’s 77% under-35 workforce and 5% turnover, and the fifth-ranked company’s 190 staff and 2% in the high-income bracket. However, several figures are misread: the second company has 79 staff, not 79%, and the fourth has 76 staff, not a percentage. The response also lacks a clear overview of the main patterns across the five companies, and statements such as “more lowest is 2% and highest is 190” compare unlike measures. The report is 142 words, below the required 150, which further limits its coverage. Select key contrasts accurately and summarise them in an overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response follows the companies in survey order, and sequencing phrases such as “first of all,” “secondly,” and “in the third position” give the reader a basic route through the information. However, the ideas are not grouped into a clear introduction, overview, and supporting details, so the main message is difficult to identify. The repeated pattern of describing a “highest” and “lowest” figure for each company is mechanical, and some links are unclear—for example, “the second table above percentage” does not explain which data is being discussed. Organise the report into paragraphs and compare related measures across companies, using clear references to staff numbers, age, turnover, and income.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “staff turnover,” “staff numbers,” “under 35s,” and “high income bracket,” which helps identify the table’s categories. However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or awkward, such as “top of all percentage,” “more less survey percentage,” and “highest percentage show.” Repetition of “highest,” “lowest,” and “show” also makes the report less precise. Use accurate comparison language such as “the highest proportion,” “the lowest turnover,” and “ranked first,” and distinguish percentages from counts by naming the measure. Check spelling and word forms, including “Britain,” “column,” and “fourth,” to make the information easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent. The opening, “The table illustrate,” has subject–verb disagreement, while “there are five small companies to work for position in survey” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Several later clauses omit necessary verbs or articles, as in “highest percentage show in under35s” and “the lowest show in 8% staff turnover.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also weak, with long sequences joined by commas and little full-stop control. These errors sometimes make relationships between figures unclear. Practise complete comparative sentences, for example, “The third-ranked company had the highest proportion of under-35s, at 82%,” and check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
