Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several relevant features, including the smallest and largest workforces, the low and high turnover figures, and the contrast in the proportion of older staff. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: the table shows the highest share in the high-income bracket at company 3 (74%), not company 1, whose figure is 34%. The overview also says there are “more high pays in companie 1,” which conflicts with the data. Important patterns such as company 3’s high-income share and company 5’s very young workforce are not clearly reported. The response therefore covers the task only partially, with relevant but limited and sometimes under-developed observations. Check each comparison against the table and give a concise, accurate overview of the main contrasts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organisation: an opening paragraph introduces the table and gives an overview, followed by a paragraph with selected details and a concluding sentence. This provides a basic structure, and phrases such as “on the other hand” show an attempt to connect contrasts. However, the progression is not consistently clear. Several different comparisons are crowded into one long paragraph, and the final “To sum it all up” sentence repeats a general claim rather than synthesising the key findings. Linking is also sometimes awkward, as in “with companies 2 in second number compare to 4th.” Group related data into clearer sentences or paragraphs, and use precise references such as “the second-ranked company” so readers can follow each comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “staff,” “turnover,” “male and female ratios,” and “high income bracket,” so the reader can recognise the subject of the report. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “implemented by nation newspaper,” “more high pays,” and “the turn of rate in staff.” Spelling errors, including “signaficant,” “oposite,” and “companie,” are noticeable and reduce the clarity and accuracy of the report. Aim for standard data-reporting expressions and check spelling carefully. For example, describe a company as “ranked first,” refer to “staff turnover,” and say that a proportion “is in the high-income bracket.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use basic comparison structures, for example, “company 1 has the lowest number of staff and company 5 has highest number.” However, the response relies heavily on simple clauses joined together, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty. Errors with articles, agreement, plurals, and sentence boundaries occur in phrases such as “the positions of the all 5 companies,” “company 5 has highest number,” and “companies 1, 3, and 5 has 0%.” Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly where sentences run together. These errors sometimes make relationships between details difficult to follow. Practise accurate comparative sentence patterns and check each sentence for a clear subject, verb, and appropriate article.
