Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant comparisons, including the largest workforce (190 at the fifth-ranked company), the lowest turnover (5% at the first), and the fourth company’s female-majority workforce. However, the overview is unclear and contains a major data error: the third company has 74%, not 78%, of staff in the high-income bracket, and the fifth company has the lowest figure, at 2%, rather than the second-highest. Some other figures are also misreported: the third company’s turnover is 8%, not 74%. The response selects relevant features but does not give a reliable overall picture of the table, and several comparisons are incomplete. Check each figure carefully and summarise the main contrasts accurately before adding detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction, then groups information into paragraphs about income and staffing, and uses linking words such as “Overall,” “While,” and “However.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because comparisons are sometimes placed together without a clear organising principle. For example, the sentence beginning “Because the 3rd company…” interrupts the comparison of workforce size and turnover, while “However” does not introduce a clear contrast. Several sentences begin with “And” or “While,” and the relationships between points are not always explicit. Group the data by themes—such as workforce profile, turnover, and income—and use connectors only where they accurately show the relationship.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “staff turnover,” “high income bracket,” and “male and female ratio,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. Examples include “the 3rd companies,” “highest counted for the staff numbers,” and “the second heighest income bracket.” There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “illuutrates,” “compay,” “femal,” and “beacuse.” Use standard terms such as “ranked third,” “had the largest workforce,” and “the second-lowest proportion,” and proofread spelling. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish rankings, proportions, and staff totals.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas hard to interpret. For example, “Overall, the 3rd companies is the show…” has problems with number agreement and sentence structure, while “Male and femal ratio has 4th company is heighest ratio…” lacks a clear grammatical pattern. Articles, plurals, and verb forms are also often inaccurate, as in “the 2nd and 4th company has.” Some sentence fragments begin with “While” or “And,” and punctuation does not consistently separate complete ideas. Practise clear comparison structures, such as “The fourth company had the highest proportion of women, at 87%,” and check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
