Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the shift in spending from food to leisure. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision in reporting figures. For instance, stating 'near about 10%' is vague, and the report fails to make meaningful comparisons between the two years, such as noting the significant decline in food expenditure. The overview is present but lacks clarity. To improve, you should focus on grouping data logically and providing more accurate data points to support your observations, ensuring that the comparison between 1968 and 2018 is more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'To embark with' and 'Probing Further', which are not standard academic transitions. The flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed, making the progression of ideas feel somewhat forced. To improve, use more natural linking words like 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', or 'Conversely' to connect your ideas. Additionally, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence to guide the reader through your analysis.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'the whole income graph was different' and 'the leisure was the highest from others'. The repetition of basic structures and the limited variety of descriptive verbs (e.g., 'was', 'were') restrict the score. To improve, try to incorporate more varied vocabulary related to trends, such as 'accounted for', 'witnessed a decline', or 'remained stable', and ensure that you use terminology accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect punctuation, missing articles (e.g., 'the leisure'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'the average spending was food was the highest'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage also need attention. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on sentence structure, ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofread carefully to correct basic errors in articles and word order.
