Student answer (Band 6.0)
The chart below illustrates the information about how families in one country spent their monthly income in 1968 and in 2018. It explains that different families that are residing in same country has different income and they spent it according to their usage.
In the year 1968, average weekly spending by families were higher in some aspects such as large amount of families mostly spent their income on food products because at that time food was affordable and also it was natural without any impurities. However, if we look at other things like fuels and power they were rarely used because modern technologies are yet to be discovered.
Additionally, They spent most of the money on their clothing and footware in contrast of the year 2018. In the year 2018, many families of country spent large amount of money on their housing because residence are essential for everyone. However, most of the citizens value their comforts so they use money on things that make them comfortable.
Furthermore, transport is also widely use in the year 2018 than 1968. And if we look at usage of fuels its range lower than the usage in 1968 its all because of modern technologies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to accurately report the data provided in the chart. Instead of summarizing the specific spending categories (e.g., food, housing, transport), the essay relies on personal speculation about why spending changed, such as claiming food was 'natural without any impurities' or that modern technologies were 'yet to be discovered.' This is not a data-driven report. Furthermore, the student misinterprets the task by stating the chart shows 'monthly' income when the prompt clearly specifies 'weekly.' The main features are not clearly highlighted, and the comparison between 1968 and 2018 is largely based on subjective opinion rather than the provided statistics.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the overall structure. However, the progression of ideas is weak because the content is not based on the data. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Additionally,' 'Furthermore,' and 'However,' but they are sometimes used mechanically or to connect irrelevant points. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is disrupted by the lack of factual analysis. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a clear grouping of data points rather than general commentary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally simple and repetitive. There are inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'residing in same country has different income' and 'footware' (spelling error). The student uses basic phrases like 'spent large amount of money' repeatedly. There is little attempt to use academic or precise vocabulary related to data description (e.g., 'proportion,' 'expenditure,' 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable'). The range is limited, and the errors in word formation and collocation are noticeable, though they do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the general intent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('average weekly spending... were,' 'families... has'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('transport is also widely use'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels clunky. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
