Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by comparing the two years, but it lacks a clear overview of the main trends. While you mention specific categories, the analysis is somewhat superficial and relies on subjective interpretations (e.g., 'necessities rather than wants') rather than focusing on the data provided in the chart. To improve, ensure you identify the most significant changes, such as the dramatic shift in food and leisure spending, and provide a clear summary paragraph that highlights these key differences without adding personal commentary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs using transition words like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly'. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. The use of cohesive devices is present but basic, and the structure of the introduction is repetitive, as it restates the prompt rather than providing a concise summary of the data. Improving the flow between sentences would help achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'famiilies', 'moeny', 'idustrial', 'feul', and 'househodl'. You rely on simple descriptors like 'huge chunk' and 'increment', which are not ideal for an academic report. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology related to data analysis, such as 'proportion', 'expenditure', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable', and ensure you proofread for basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'This chart shows information about 2 timelines one of 1968 and one of 2018' (run-on/punctuation), 'Which is not a basic need' (sentence fragment), and 'Spenings on housing is increased' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of periods and commas. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and avoiding sentence fragments will significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
