Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. While the candidate attempts to identify some main features, the report is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to grammatical issues. The data reporting is selective and lacks the necessary depth to provide a comprehensive summary of the changes between 1968 and 2018. Because the response is unfinished and under-length, it does not fully address the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic and sometimes repetitive manner (e.g., 'In 1968', 'In 2018', 'Moreover'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow of ideas is disrupted by the abrupt ending. To improve, the candidate should focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph is fully developed before moving on.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary range is quite limited and repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors such as 'releted', 'famliies', 'hihest', 'thier', 'persnol', 'secter', and 'incresed'. These errors, combined with the misuse of terms like 'filed' instead of 'field', indicate a lack of control over basic vocabulary. The candidate relies on simple, often inaccurate phrasing to describe the data. To reach a higher band, the candidate needs to focus on accurate spelling and using more precise terminology related to data analysis, such as 'expenditure', 'proportion', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The chart represent'), incorrect verb tenses, and awkward sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and missing full stops. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with errors in basic syntax. The incomplete final sentence further demonstrates a lack of control over sentence construction. Significant improvement in basic grammar and proofreading is required to ensure clarity.
