1968 and 2018: average weekly spending by families
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The infomation about families spending their weekly income through 1968 and 2018 has changed. In the earlier world people's main focus was on servival things like food, shelter for the family etc. Whereas, if we look at todays trend it has drastically changed to improve the living standards of of one's life. In 1968 peopel were more concerned about food for their family and the majority of their income was spent on this but, in 2018 the food has become more convenient and only about 17% of income is spent on food. people of 2018 spent more on their housing as a symbol of status and the leisure items. in 1968 transport was not very convenient therefore, it wass slightly higher in 1968. as the world has expanded so much in 2018 people often have to travel also weather it be for jobs, food, or other things so about 14% of weekly income is spent on transport which is compratively higher then 1968.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to meet the requirements for a Band 6 or higher. While you identify some trends, the report lacks a clear overview and fails to provide a systematic comparison of the data. You mention specific categories like food and transport, but the analysis is superficial and lacks precision regarding the actual figures provided in the chart. Furthermore, the response includes subjective commentary (e.g., 'housing as a symbol of status'), which is not supported by the data and is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, focus strictly on reporting the data provided without adding personal interpretations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is written as a single paragraph, which hinders logical progression. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, making the flow feel disjointed. While there is a basic attempt to sequence information, the absence of clear paragraphing and the limited use of linking words (e.g., 'whereas', 'therefore') make the text difficult to follow. To improve, you should organize your report into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs detailing specific data points. Use a wider range of transition signals to connect your sentences more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'things' and 'changed'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'infomation', 'servival', 'todays', and 'peopel', which distract the reader. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately; for example, instead of saying 'it has drastically changed', you should use more precise academic language to describe statistical shifts. You need to expand your range of vocabulary to include terms related to data analysis, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, punctuation, and sentence structure, such as 'the food has become more convenient and only about 17% of income is spent on food.' The use of 'of of' and the lack of capitalization at the start of sentences are also problematic. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensure correct capitalization, and proofread for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses.
