Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear overview or a logical summary of the main trends. Several figures are inaccurate or confusingly presented, such as the claim that food spending was 35% in 1986 (the chart shows 1968). The analysis lacks a clear comparison between the two years, and the inclusion of personal opinions about population and 'disaster' is irrelevant to the data provided. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant changes (e.g., the sharp decline in food expenditure) and ensure all data points are accurately transcribed from the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. It is written as a single block of text with minimal paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; sentences are often strung together without logical transitions. The progression of information is disjointed, jumping between categories without a clear pattern. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks for the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs, and employ linking words like 'in contrast,' 'furthermore,' or 'meanwhile' to guide the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'weekley', 'comaprision', 'thiing', 'neend') and misuse of terminology (e.g., 'ratios' instead of 'percentages'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or data points effectively. To improve, learn specific collocations for describing charts, such as 'a significant decrease,' 'remained stable,' or 'accounted for,' and focus on accurate spelling of basic terms related to the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There is a lack of control over sentence structure, with many run-on sentences and missing punctuation. Verb tense usage is inconsistent, particularly when referring to the two different years. Basic errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage are pervasive. To improve, focus on writing simple, grammatically correct sentences before attempting complex structures, and pay close attention to consistent tense usage when describing historical data.
