Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart comparing weekly family spending in 1968 and 2018, noting major shifts in categories such as food and leisure. However, the task achievement is hindered significantly by the word count falling below the 150-word minimum requirement at 140 words. Furthermore, the selection of data contains inaccuracies or vague descriptions (e.g., stating leisure sold 10 percent, or referring to maximum 10 percent for transport), and there is no clear overall overview provided. Because parts of the data are misreported and the minimum length requirement is not met, the score is limited to Band 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text lacks clear overall progression and paragraphing, presented instead as a single, continuous block of text with run-on sentences. Cohesive devices are either missing or repetitive and inaccurate, such as 'own an another side' and 'because food is nessesory'. The organization of ideas makes it difficult for the reader to follow a logical progression between the various spending categories in the two years. Reference words and logical links are frequently faulty, placing this response firmly at Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'tjeir', 'alot', 'mpney', 'camaring', 'cosumed', 'fueland', 'payed', 'ammount', 'nessesory', 'lesture', and 'spented'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate to convey very simple ideas, but the persistent spelling and word-choice errors (such as using 'sold' instead of 'stood at' or 'accounted for') frequently strain the reader's understanding. This performance aligns with Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The writing relies almost exclusively on poorly controlled simple or run-on sentences joined by conjunctions like 'but'. There is a complete lack of punctuation to separate independent clauses, resulting in major run-on errors. Grammatical accuracy is very low, with frequent errors in prepositions, verb forms, and sentence structure (e.g., 'there come a big difference in1968 the lesture sold only 10 percent'). These frequent errors severely impede communication and demonstrate basic control, meriting a Band 4.0.
