Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant features, including food as the largest category in 1968, leisure as the largest in 2018, and household goods as unchanged. However, the overview is unclear: saying food “has increast weekly income” does not accurately describe its fall from about 35% to 17%, and the statement about 2018 declines does not clearly identify the categories. Some figures are also inaccurate or vague: housing was about 19%, not “16 between 19%,” and the lowest 2018 figures were fuel and power and personal goods, both around 4%. The response contains 127 words, below the required 150, so the report is underdeveloped. Add a clear overview and accurately compare the main rises and falls.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic three-part structure: an introduction and overview, followed by details for 1968 and 2018. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow, and several links between ideas are unclear. For example, “Trsnsport to leisure was 7 to 9%” does not explain which figure belongs to which category, while “In contxet 2018” is an unclear transition. The overview also combines unrelated points without a clear comparison. Use separate, logically ordered comparisons—for example, first the largest categories, then the smaller ones—and connect them with accurate phrases such as “by contrast” and “while.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “weekly income,” “around,” “highest,” and category names such as “household goods” and “fuel and power.” This shows a basic ability to describe chart data. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the report harder to understand, including “increast,” “higest,” “Trsnsport,” and “contxet.” Phrases such as “high weekly income” and “the same income” are also imprecise for describing proportions. Choose accurate reporting language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe a category as accounting for a “share” of spending, and use “rose,” “fell,” or “remained unchanged” to report trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt simple statements and a few longer constructions, such as “Overall it is clear that…” and “The same income was household goods and personal goods…”. However, sentence structures are very limited, and frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes obscure the intended meaning. For instance, “The given chart illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “In the 1920 weekly income of food was higest income” has an incorrect year and an incomplete, awkward grammatical pattern. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops. Practise clear comparative sentence frames, such as “Food accounted for 35% in 1968, compared with 17% in 2018,” and proofread each sentence for a complete subject and verb.
