Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main shift from food to housing and leisure, and you compare several categories across the two years. The figures for food (35% to 17%), housing (about 10% to 19%), leisure (9% to about 22–23%) and transport (about 8% to 14%) broadly reflect the chart. However, some details are inaccurate: fuel and power fell from 6%, not 7%, and household goods remained at 8% rather than decreasing; personal goods fell to 4%, not 3%. The overview also says housing and leisure “increase expenses,” which is unclear, and the contrast with the other categories is not fully explained. A more precise overview and careful checking of the smaller categories would make the report more complete and clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs comparing figures. You also use linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “in contrast,” which help signal relationships. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow because several categories and comparisons are joined in long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the overview runs into “in contrast of other spending…” without a clear sentence boundary, while the final paragraph moves from housing to leisure and then transport with limited signposting. Some connectors are repeated or do not express the relationship accurately. Use separate sentences for each comparison group and organise the details consistently, such as decreases first and increases second.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounted for,” “decrease” and “in contrast,” and these choices show an attempt to describe changes rather than simply list figures. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “increase expenses,” “making it in biggest expence,” and “go on the top rapidly.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “hoousehold,” “wheareas,” “thier” and “liesure.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, even though the intended categories and trends can usually be understood. Build a reliable set of phrases for proportions and changes, and check spelling and collocation before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the overall meaning can generally be recovered. However, control of sentence structure and verb forms is inconsistent. The opening, “The line chart above demonstrate the information how family spent,” has subject–verb agreement and clause-structure problems. In “families spending their income on food increasing 35%,” the verb pattern is incomplete, and phrases such as “in 2018 its go” show errors in tense and agreement. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable: the overview ends with a fragment beginning “in contrast of other spending,” and several sentences run together. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and finite verb, and use past-tense forms consistently when reporting the two years.
