Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent years, the large number of people travel to other countries for various purposes such as to study, for a trip etc. This essay will discuss the ease for the people who travel to other countries with the help of mass media to know the culture of the people living in that country. While this trend offers several advantages in terms of adopting their culture and knowledge of the country, it also brings certain disadvantages such as miscommunications that should not be overlooked.
One of the main advantages is adopting their culture. For example, there are several students who prefer to go to other countries for higher studies and settle there. This mass media helps these students to learn about their culture, festivals, and everything they celebrate there. Additionally, it has been observed that in the last decades, there has been a significant amount of growth in people making tours to other countries. The television and other internet sources help these people to know about the country and their culture.
Despite these advantages, there is also a disadvantage. A significant disadvantage is miscommunication. Every nation has different cultures and languages, such as Germans speaking the German language and French people prefer french language. A relatable example of this drawback is that, if asian people goes to European countries like Germany or France, people don't understand their language, due to which they sometimes misunderstand the things and try to communicate with them, which in turn leads to miscommunications.
In conclusion, the spread of various mass media offers several benefits, like learning their culture, for students who want to settle there, but it also carries a risk of miscommunications that might lead to conflict. In my view, the mass media have made the people's lives easy if done in a proper and understandable way.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention 'adopting culture' as an advantage, the explanation remains superficial and repetitive. The disadvantage section regarding 'miscommunication' is also underdeveloped; the example provided is a bit simplistic and does not fully explore the complexities of how mass media influences these interactions. To improve, ensure that each point is supported by more detailed reasoning or specific, nuanced examples that directly link back to the role of mass media in shaping cross-cultural understanding.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'One of the main advantages', 'Additionally', 'Despite these advantages'). Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the referencing could be more precise to improve the flow. Increasing the variety of linking words and ensuring that ideas within paragraphs are more tightly connected would elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'miscommunications', 'significant amount', and 'settle'. However, the vocabulary is often basic and lacks the precision or sophistication required for higher bands. There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'making tours to other countries' instead of 'traveling internationally' or 'touring'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. Avoid repeating the same words (like 'culture' and 'country') too frequently; instead, use synonyms or paraphrasing to maintain interest and demonstrate a wider lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'the large number of people travel' should be 'the large number of people traveling' or 'a large number of people travel'. There are also subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'if asian people goes' (should be 'go') and 'French people prefer french language' (missing article). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage.
