Student answer (Band 7.0)
In recent times, the convenience in international travel and introduction of various forms of mass media around the globe have enabled the public to acquire knowledge about the lifestyles of citizens of various countries. I agree to a large extent that the benefits of this advancement outweigh the drawbacks and I shall provide my reasoning along with conclusion in this essay.
First and foremost, the aeroplane companies has drastically reduced the prices of tickets in recent decades which encourages the general public to travel to different countries for vacations and business meetings instead of organising them in their local cities. The citizens spend a large proportion of their time in exploring various historical museums, restuarants, cities, movie theaters and parks which provides an extensive knowledge and experience about the daily activities of community of that country. For instance, Paris and New York are the hubs of toursim due to Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty, respectively. Therefore, the ease in international travel has paved the way of acquiring more information.
Equally important, public lives in an era where access to information is readily available due to numerous types of mass media such as news channels, online newspapers, social media and Youtube. The media plays a vital role in showcasing the lives of citizens of different countries. The influencers and content creators travel to numerous countries and share the stories of local communities and their own experience. For example, Youtuber Mark Weins, travel to different countries for making food videos and the general public acquires knowledge about international cuisines by watching his videos. In a similar manner, newspaper and channels make informative documentaries for their audience. Furthermore, Instagram influencers showcase their lavish lifestyles in hotels and beaches around the globe.
An important consideration is that citizens should not formulate an opinion about their short-term experience in other countries. Moreover, the media often provides bogus information which the public should be aware of.
It can be concluded that, low-cost international journey and media have played a crucial role in showcasing the culture and history of different communities because, nowadays, the public is more connected with each other in comparison with past.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the mention of tourism in Paris and New York, and the role of influencers like Mark Weins. However, the development of the 'disadvantages' side is somewhat brief and could have been more deeply explored to achieve a higher band. The conclusion is clear, though it repeats the prompt's premise rather than synthesising the arguments presented in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organised, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two main arguments. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Equally important', and 'Furthermore' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the connection between the final body paragraph (the disadvantages) and the rest of the essay is somewhat abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. There are some good collocations like 'paved the way' and 'lavish lifestyles'. However, there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'aeroplane companies' (should be 'airlines') and 'toursim' (spelling error). The vocabulary is generally sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score. More varied synonyms for 'knowledge' and 'countries' would improve the lexical variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the aeroplane companies has' instead of 'have') and minor punctuation or article errors. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on eliminating these basic errors and incorporating a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy.
