Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to fully address the prompt. While it mentions international travel and social media, the arguments are disjointed and do not clearly state a position on whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are underdeveloped; for instance, the paragraph regarding 'talking to families' is confusing and lacks a clear link to the prompt's focus on cultural awareness. Furthermore, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. To improve, you must clearly state your position in the introduction and provide well-structured, logical arguments that directly answer the question of whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'In conclusion', but they are often used mechanically or incorrectly, such as 'Nevertheless they also paly a pivotal role in internationally'. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your train of thought. To improve, focus on using transition words that logically connect your ideas rather than just starting sentences with them, and ensure each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that supports your main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'various of mass media' instead of 'various types of mass media' and 'many develop countries' instead of 'many developed countries'. Some phrases are unclear, such as 'what makes people talk own families', which impedes the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items, and focus on using words in their correct grammatical context. Practicing collocations will help you sound more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often cause difficulty for the reader. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'international travel help' instead of 'helps', and incorrect sentence structures, such as 'people cannot told own families truth'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several sentence fragments and run-on sentences. The range of structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and verb tenses. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect word forms will also help improve your accuracy.
