Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent decades, international travel and mass media have made it more easier as well as possible than ever for individuals to know about how other people live in other countries. Although this development can have some negative effects. I believe that the merits surpass the demerits because digital sources and international trips provide cultural understanding and valuable information about the world.

The main advantage of this development is that people's understanding of different cultures. Internation travel allows individuals to experience other countries traditions, languages, clothes and lifestyles. Also, social media, television and online platforms allows people to observe foreign cultures without travelling abroad For example, a person in India can watch documentries and videos about Japanese festivals and traditional lifestyles without visiting Japan. As a result, people can get cultural understanding as well as various information about foreign countries.

Furthermore, International travellinga and mass media can beneficial for students, because it provides educational and professional opportunities. Most pupils travel abroad for complete their higher education and get fruitful job opportunity. In addition, social media provides access to news, educational programmes and information from around the world. Therefore, People can make better decision about their careers and education.

However, this development has some drawbacks too, the foremost one is that constant exposure to foreign lifestyles may cause some people, particulary young individuals, to loss interest in their own cultures and traditions. Moreover, mass media can sometimes present an unrealistic pictures of life in other countries. Nevertheless, this problem can reduce if people use realistic sources and maintain balance between foreign and local cultures.

To conclude, the benefits of international travel and mass media more than drawbacks. Although this development can reduce people interest from their own traditions. I believe that it promotes cultural understanding, provides educational opportunities and increase people's awareness of the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding cultural understanding and educational opportunities are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of students traveling for higher education. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'unrealistic pictures' of life in other countries is mentioned but not fully explored. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more depth in your explanations and ensure that the link between your examples and the main argument is more robustly established.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'Nevertheless' to link your thoughts. However, the use of these devices is occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive. Additionally, there are some minor issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph: 'without travelling abroad For example'. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'merits', 'demerits', 'cultural understanding', and 'professional opportunities'. There are some instances of slightly awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'more easier' (a double comparative error) and 'loss interest' (should be 'lose interest'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'International travellinga' (spelling), 'allows people to observe... without travelling abroad For example' (punctuation), and 'most pupils travel abroad for complete their higher education' (incorrect verb form). Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, for example, 'social media... allows' vs 'social media... provides'. These errors are noticeable but do not generally impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement.
