Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt but lacks a clear, consistent position. While you mention that media can be both helpful and misleading, the argument is not well-developed. The personal anecdote about your trip to London is too specific and does not effectively support a general argument about the global impact of mass media and travel. The ideas are repetitive, and the conclusion is vague, failing to provide a clear synthesis of the advantages versus disadvantages. To improve, ensure you present a clear thesis statement in the introduction and dedicate separate paragraphs to discussing the benefits and drawbacks with broader, more analytical examples rather than personal narratives.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks logical progression. Paragraphing is present but the ideas within the paragraphs are disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas, making the text feel like a series of disconnected thoughts. For example, the transition between your experience in London and the discussion on media accuracy is abrupt. Referencing is often unclear, such as the use of 'his help' without a clear antecedent. To improve, use linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'on the other hand' to guide the reader through your argument and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'media', 'people', and 'help'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'incorrect creation' instead of 'misinformation' and 'spended' (a grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). The use of the idiom 'cloud nine' is inappropriate for the context of discussing media influence. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'globalization', 'cultural exchange', 'misleading content', or 'dissemination of information', and ensure you use collocations correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('media play', 'media helps'), tense consistency ('spended', 'they didn't thought'), and sentence structure (run-on sentences and fragments). Many sentences are poorly constructed, making the meaning difficult to follow. For example, 'incorrect information can destroy people who can always assist for media' is confusing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and preposition usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures is necessary, but accuracy must be prioritized first.
