Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt, but the development of ideas is limited. While you state your position that advantages outweigh disadvantages, the arguments remain superficial. For example, the point about 'forgetting own culture' is a valid concern, but it lacks sufficient explanation or concrete evidence to fully support your stance. The 'survey' mentioned is vague and lacks context. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a clear topic sentence followed by a logical explanation and a specific, detailed example that directly relates to the prompt. Currently, the ideas are somewhat repetitive and lack the depth required for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To commence with' and 'To explain it' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the advantages and disadvantages is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'nevertheless') and ensure that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one. The conclusion is also slightly confusing due to the grammatical errors in the final sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. There is significant repetition of basic words like 'culture', 'nations', and 'people'. You also make several spelling errors, such as 'advantanges', 'wiritng', 'foriegners', and 'poeple'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, try to use more sophisticated synonyms and ensure you check your spelling carefully. Avoid using informal phrasing like 'many masses' and focus on using collocations that sound more natural in an academic context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there culture' instead of 'their culture'), missing articles, and incorrect word order (e.g., 'many masses can see that how other individuals live'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of question marks in statements. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction before attempting more complex structures. Pay close attention to the difference between 'there', 'their', and 'they're', as this is a recurring error that impacts the clarity of your writing.
