Student answer (Band 6.0)

Due to the ease of international travel and the spread of various kinds of mass media coverage all over the world have made it more possible than ever for people to know how other people live in other countries.

I think that the ease of international travel had made it possible for people to connect with other countries and culture of those countries, while this development have certain drawbacks, i believe that the advantages of this development significantly outweigh the disadvantages.

The biggest key player to transform our tourism industry is the wide variety and various kinds of mass media coverage available online, specifically social media had played an important role in this transformation.

The advantages of the ease of travelling internationally are that we do not have to spend a fortune on our holiday trips to explore how people in other cultures live their lives, furthermore the availability of content on social media about certain famous sites to visit and certain famous local foods to eat had made it really easy for first time travellers to explore their destination at their best way possible.

Another advantage is that you can move from country to country for dirt cheap money and explore more about the history and heritage of the people living there.

one quite disadvantage is that some international travellers do not respect other peoples culture and their privacy, which results in bad media presentation and defamation of that area.

In conclusion, although some countries do not welcome like such development, other advantages outweigh these downsides and promote healthy tourism through out the globe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of international travel and media. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you clearly state that advantages outweigh disadvantages, the supporting arguments—such as 'dirt cheap money' and 'famous local foods'—lack depth and academic rigor. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or logical reasoning to support your claims. For instance, instead of mentioning 'dirt cheap money,' you could discuss the economic benefits of tourism for developing nations or the cultural exchange that fosters global understanding. The conclusion is brief and lacks a summary of the main points discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For example, you use 'furthermore' and 'another advantage' to link ideas, which is appropriate, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is slightly abrupt. The sentence structure within paragraphs is generally logical, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea. Referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel disconnected from the overall argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. You rely on somewhat informal or repetitive phrasing, such as 'biggest key player,' 'dirt cheap money,' and 'really easy.' While these phrases communicate your meaning, they are not suitable for an academic essay. To improve, aim for more precise academic collocations and avoid colloquialisms. You demonstrate an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'tourism industry' and 'defamation,' but these are not consistently integrated with natural control. Expanding your range of synonyms and academic expressions will significantly enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede the flow. For instance, the opening sentence is a fragment because it lacks a main verb for the subject. You also have issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'social media had played' (should be 'has played') and 'this development have' (should be 'has'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the lack of capitalization for 'i' and 'one.' While you attempt some complex sentence structures, they are often marred by these persistent errors. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help you achieve a higher score.
