Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is irrefutable fact that the internet and the most frequent travel of people from one country to another has made is way more easier to access and look onto the lifestyle of people living in other countries. According to me, it has more advantages than disadvantages because of the following reasons.

The people are losing their culture, religion and caste by following the tradition of other people. There are so many countries which have their own culture and religion which is asked by the parents to follow by their kids. For instance, In India, most of the parents do not allow their kid to wear too short dresses and clothes as they are against their culture. By following the trend of foreign countries, some adults follow the foreign culture which their parents does not like that.

By getting the knowledge that what people are doing in other countries, we can get to know more about the technology. Following the technology of other countries and buying that equipments make the life more easier. An example of this is that China uses the most advanced technology of computer and internet, which is now followed by many developing countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and making their life easier. Moreover, By knowing people of other countries, people can get to know what is happening all around the world and explore their good trends like how they are increasing their businesses and developing their skills. This would help them to grow and eventually helps in the overall growth of the country and increasing their GDP.

Thus, according to me, exploring the world through travel and mass media has more advantages than the disadvantages. This would not only help the people to grow but also helps in overall growth of country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of global connectivity. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The disadvantage section focuses heavily on cultural loss, which is a relevant point, but the argument regarding parents and clothing is a bit narrow. The advantages section is better developed, linking technology and economic growth to the prompt. The position is clear throughout, but the essay would benefit from more nuanced exploration of the 'mass media' aspect, which is mentioned in the introduction but largely sidelined in the body paragraphs in favor of travel and technology.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For instance', 'Moreover', and 'Thus', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, although the connection between the ideas in the second paragraph could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'irrefutable fact' and 'developing countries', but there are also instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'most frequent travel' and 'buying that equipments'. The word 'equipments' is a common error as it is an uncountable noun. While the range is sufficient to communicate the message, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'has made is way more easier' (incorrect verb form and comparative structure), 'which is asked by the parents to follow by their kids' (awkward passive construction), and 'parents does not like that' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are persistent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the accuracy significantly.
