Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, fast modes of traveling and social media have made the world a global village. For many people due to these things we can know the lifestyle and traditions of other countries. However , there are both pros and cons to deciding to do this. In this essay I will discuss some of the reasons why we become more advance and some of the challenges to be overcome.

Lets commence by looking at the advantages of the comfort international traveling. One of the main positives of this is that we can explore the whole world peacefully by the fast means of transport like Airplanes , electric trains, motor bikes , busses cars etc. What I mean by this is that we can travel throughout the world and also back to easily. But in the past people have to travel on their foots or by animals and for this they had spent several days or weeks or even years. So this make you helpful to know more about the countries and their traditions.

Secondly, social media also play an important role in our lives. Take the BBC news channel as a example. Through this we can know clearly about the laws of the world and the disputes among other countries. In addition it guide us that we should avoid such doings for peaceful.

Turning to the other side of the argument , there are many fake and violent means of communication. Which are producing misunderstandings among the people and cause many disputes.

All things considered, through advanced technology people of different countries are becoming more close to each other. However minor sources are causing difficulties for peace. According to my observation the advantages are more important than any of its negatives .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of international travel and media. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the argument regarding 'fake and violent means of communication' is mentioned but not sufficiently explained or supported with concrete examples. The position is clear, but the supporting points lack depth and analysis. To improve, you should expand on your arguments by providing specific evidence or logical consequences rather than just stating them. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the depth of discussion is more characteristic of a lower band level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'this' or 'also'. Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the logical progression within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by simplistic sentence structures. For instance, the transition 'Turning to the other side of the argument' is a good attempt at a signpost, but the following paragraph lacks sufficient development to make the argument flow logically. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'things', 'doings', and 'good/bad' concepts. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'comfort international traveling' and 'peaceful' used as a noun. While the meaning is generally clear, there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, such as 'global connectivity' instead of 'global village' or 'technological advancements' instead of 'advanced technology'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'social media also play'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'on their foots'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'this make you helpful to know'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately.
