The ease of international travel and the spread of various kinds of mass media all over the world have made it more possible than ever for people to know how other people live in other countries.
Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence. Write at least 250 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern world, modern transportation and global mass media have made significantly easier for individuals to learn about the lifestyles and culture of people in different countries. While this development has some drawbacks, I believe that the advantages heavily outweigh the disadvantages.
On the one hand, there are clear benefits to this cross-cultural awareness. The first advantage is that it spread global understanding and reduces misinformation. When people watch international news, documentaries, travel vlogs, that develop their interest to know about other countries culture and traditions. This exposure helps break down mislead information and encourages tolerance and attraction among different nations. Furthermore, international travel allows people to experience unique cultures and foods. For instance, tourists visiting foreign countries often return with mature and open-minded perspective and a deeper appreciation for diversity.
On the other hand, there are certain drawbacks associated with this trend. One major concern is that people are not more interested and well-being of their local cultures and traditions. As global media, particularly from western countries, dominates screens worldwide, younger generations in developing nations often adopt foreign habits, fashion, lifestyle and languages, sometimes they fully attract with other countries culture and daily routines, due to this they are leaving their own heritage. Additionally, witnessing wealthy lifestyle through media or tourism can trigger feelings of dissatisfaction or unrealistic among locals who face economic hardships. They are losing their everything and are becoming restless.
In conclusion, although the spread of global media and easy travel can lead to cultural diversity and occasional local discontent, the benefits of mutual understanding and broad-mindedness are far more significant. Overall, the positive impacts on people make this a great and welcome development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments are relevant, with both advantages (global understanding, tolerance) and disadvantages (loss of local culture, dissatisfaction) explored. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. For example, the point about 'mislead information' is mentioned but not fully explained, and the argument regarding 'unrealistic' feelings among locals is slightly vague. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, concrete examples to support your claims, such as referencing a specific type of media or a particular cultural trend, rather than relying on general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the advantages and disadvantages. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'sometimes they fully attract with other countries culture'. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cross-cultural awareness', 'misinformation', and 'heritage'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'mislead information' instead of 'misinformation', 'attract with' instead of 'attracted to', and 'unrealistic' used as a noun instead of 'unrealistic expectations'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated collocations and ensuring accurate word forms will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and prepositions, such as 'have made significantly easier' (missing 'it'), 'that develop their interest to know' (should be 'which develops their interest in knowing'), and 'not more interested and well-being' (should be 'not interested in the well-being'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of complex sentence structures.
