Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of global connectivity through travel and mass media, ultimately taking a clear position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Ideas are introduced and supported with examples, such as the Indian and Chinese cultural exchange and the Sheffield University survey reference. However, some arguments remain somewhat general and lack deeper development, placing the response comfortably at Band 6.0 according to the task achievement descriptors, where relevant ideas are present but aspects of support can feel underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To recapitulate.' However, the use of cohesion is sometimes mechanical and faulty, and referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'visiting the nation state on that country is not important'). Paragraphing is used, but the logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive transitional patterns.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic ideas about travel, media, culture, and economy. Attempts are made to use less common items and phrasing, such as 'technological era,' 'predominantly important,' and 'cultural traditions.' However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as 'access of international travel' instead of 'access to,' 'talk them' instead of 'talk to them,' and 'swipe eachother ideas' instead of 'exchange ideas.' These lexical errors reflect a Band 5.5 performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many complex sentences contain fundamental grammatical faults and awkward phrasing, such as 'Nowadays, access of international travel and media for know about other country culture...' and 'although visiting to other nations is predominantly important to connect physically, but connect by using technology have another benefit...'. Errors in verb forms, prepositions, and clause structures are frequent and occasionally cause strain for the reader, though the core meaning can generally be deciphered.
