Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of international travel and mass media. However, there are significant limitations. Crucially, the length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the essay contains only 225 words, which requires a downward adjustment in this criterion. Furthermore, the position is somewhat difficult to discern until the final incomplete sentence, and the arguments are underdeveloped. For instance, the points about cultural understanding and the reduction of racism are merely listed without concrete examples or sufficient elaboration. The disadvantages concerning misinformation and tourism are also rushed. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, aligning closely with a band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The structural layout of the essay is heavily compromised. The student fails to form a proper introduction and abruptly cuts off at the conclusion. While there is an attempt to sequence ideas using transitional markers like 'firstly', 'secondly', and 'On the contrary', the paragraphing is extremely poor, grouping multiple distinct ideas into single, run-on paragraphs without adequate spacing or logical progression. Referencing is also faulty, as seen in phrases like 'the information illustrated the on media is not usually true, it may has some personal opinion'. Cohesive devices are used mechanically rather than flexibly. These issues reflect the characteristics of a band 5.0 in coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively limited and repetitive. The student attempts some less common items such as 'globalization', 'traditional identity', and 'exhausted', but these are frequently marred by word choice and collocation errors, such as 'freel access', 'broadeb their horizon', and 'take the lose of traditional identity'. Spelling and morphological errors are also noticeable throughout the text, including 'undoubtly', 'outweights', 'booster', 'envrionment', 'Subsquently', and 'globlization'. While communication is generally maintained despite these flaws, the range is restricted, and inaccuracies constrain the score to a band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. Examples of grammatical errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('this progress have a few disadvantages', 'the advantages... outweights', 'it may has some personal opinion'), run-on clauses ('Which supports in reducing', 'creats the peaceful'), and incorrect verb forms ('ones just bwant to explore'). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and erratic spacing around commas and periods. Due to the high frequency of errors and the lack of reliable control over complex structures, a band 5.0 is appropriate.
