Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent years, the proliferation of social media and high-speed internet has fundamentally altered a broder interaction available for every nation individuals. While some individuals often argued that the rapid growth of social media could negatively transform adolescents' behaviour. I firmly believe that excessive exposure of media content could inevitably lead posionous relationship with unknown peoples.
On the one hand, with widespread of social media, the young generation tends to comprehend a wide range of information which might substantially expose to fake news. The main rationale is that the adolescents is more likely to trust the incorrect resources from media such as youtube, Instagram, and X. To illustrate, communicating with peoples in offline will possibly limit the true connection with various peoples surrounded by them in which their associated society. For instance, Instagram beginned to restrict the age of users in certain country to safeguard the young generation from social media addiction.
On the other hand, with the advancement of AI technology, some individual feel confusion between real huamn and deepfake robot. This is primarily depends on
recognizing ability and awarness of AI, however, it is still arduous for people especially for young children to realize a massive difference between AI and human. Additionally, those perfect images and influence apperance might overwhelm for the young children.
In conclusion, despite the apparent advantages of wide range of interaction with various individuals around the world, the comparism and harmful exposure present a far more compelling issue for me. It is widely acknowledged that social media was able to enhance faster communication, however, safeguarding the adolescent mental well-being and forming proper characteristic are much more convincing factor that responsible for adults.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt regarding whether the advantages of international travel and mass media in understanding other cultures outweigh the disadvantages, though the student shifts the focus heavily onto adolescents, social media, and AI risks rather than global cultural understanding as a whole. A clear position is stated in the introduction, where the writer asserts that exposure to media leads to negative consequences. However, the development of ideas lacks full clarity and suffers from some tangential arguments, such as the focus on deepfakes and age restrictions on Instagram, which do not directly answer whether knowing how other people live globally has more pros or cons. Overall, the ideas are partially developed, aligning best with a Band 6 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates an overall logical arrangement with a clear attempt to structure paragraphs using standard transitional markers like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, the cohesion is frequently mechanical and sometimes faulty. For instance, referencing and pronoun use are occasionally unclear, such as 'which might substantially expose to fake news' or 'This is primarily depends on recognising ability'. Paragraphing is utilised, but the internal logical progression within paragraphs is disrupted by grammatical awkwardness and sudden topic shifts, particularly in the third paragraph regarding AI technology. Transitional devices are present, yet their inaccurate deployment pulls the score down into the Band 5 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate to the academic context, including terms like 'proliferation', 'advancement', and 'well-being'. However, there are numerous noticeable errors in word choice, morphology, and collocation throughout the text. Examples include 'broder interaction' instead of broader interaction, 'posionous relationship' instead of poisonous or toxic relationship, 'incorrect resources' instead of sources, and 'influence apperance' instead of influential appearance. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with subordinate clauses and conditional structures. Nevertheless, frequent grammatical errors occur across the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the adolescents is more likely'), tense errors ('Instagram beginned'), and awkward prepositions or passive voice constructions ('communicating with peoples in offline'). Furthermore, sentence fragments and run-on structures, such as 'This is primarily depends on recognising ability and awarness of AI, however, it is still arduous...', impede fluent reading and indicate limited control over complex grammar, corresponding to a Band 5 score.
